Crofton Fire Runs

High winds and large pockets of standing dead timber carried the Crofton Fire up the wooded slopes of Mt. Adams, a dormant volcano in Washington State, on September 4, 2009. Heavy rain moved into the area that night, enabling firecrews to safely contain the blaze the next day. (Photo by Aaron Black-Schmidt © 2009)
